Building a high-performance team in your first 90 days as a leader can be daunting, but it is possible with the right approach and mindset. Here are some steps you can take to build a high-performance team in 90-days:

  1. Assess the Current State: Identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that the team faces. You can use this information to develop a plan of action that addresses any gaps or challenges you identify.
  2. Set Clear Goals and Expectations: Define clear goals and expectations for your team that align with the organization’s vision and mission. Ensure your team understands how their work contributes to the organization’s goals.
  3. Build Trust and Rapport: You can build trust by being transparent, authentic, and consistent. Regular check-ins, one-on-one meetings, and team-building activities can help foster a culture of trust and collaboration.
  4. Identify and Develop Talent: Identify the strengths and weaknesses of individual team members, and provide opportunities for them to develop their skills and talents. This can include mentoring, training, and coaching.
  5. Foster Communication and Collaboration: Foster open lines of communication and encourage collaboration. Communicate expectations to help team members focus on what’s important and provide a roadmap for success. Encourage your team members to share their ideas and perspectives, and provide opportunities for them to work together on projects.
  6. Celebrate Success: Celebrate successes, no matter how small they may seem. Recognize and reward team members who go above and beyond, and acknowledge the contributions of the team as a whole. Celebrating success builds morale and motivates team members to continue to perform at a high level.

30, 60, and 90 days at a Glance:

30-Day Plan:

  • Get to know each team member: Schedule one-on-one meetings with each team member to learn about their roles, strengths, and challenges.
  • Identify team goals: Meet with your manager to understand the team’s goals and objectives for the year. Then, work with your team to create specific and measurable goals that align with the team’s objectives.
  • Review team processes: Review the team’s processes and procedures to understand what works well and what needs improvement. Get feedback from team members and identify areas for improvement.

60-Day Plan:

  • Develop individual development plans: Work with each team member to create a development plan that aligns with their strengths and career goals. Set specific goals and provide regular feedback to help them achieve their goals.
  • Foster teamwork: Organize team-building activities to help team members get to know each other better and build trust. Encourage collaboration and open communication to create a culture of teamwork.
  • Implement process improvements: Identify areas for improvement in team processes and implement changes to improve efficiency and productivity.

90-Day Plan:

  • Recognize achievements: Recognize team members’ accomplishments and celebrate successes.
  • Address performance issues: Address any performance issues with team members and provide support and coaching to help them improve.
  • Develop long-term strategies: Work with your manager and team members to develop long-term strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives. Create a plan to implement these strategies and monitor progress regularly.
