Transitioning into a new career direction can be daunting, but with preparation and determination, it’s entirely achievable. My journey reflects this truth as I shifted from a successful background in sales and telecommunications to pursuing a career in higher education and leadership development. This transition not only allowed me to leverage my transferable skills but also enabled me to make a meaningful impact in both spheres.
Two memorable milestones in my sales career occurred during that time. The first happened as a Store Manager at what is now known as AT&T. It was then that I decided to return to college to pursue my Master’s degree. Recognizing that several of my associates shared similar aspirations but needed help to balance work and education, we devised a plan together. Over the next 18 months, we supported and challenged each other, ensuring that every group member achieved their academic goals. The fulfillment we experienced as we walked across the stage remains a cherished memory. The second occurred when my team and I earned the distinct honor of being named a Presidential award winner for generating $4MIL in sales.
My background in sales equipped me with strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships. Drawing upon these strengths, I seamlessly applied my expertise to engage adult learners in education, fostering an environment conducive to learning. As I delved deeper into academia, I became passionate about nurturing the next generation of leaders. Leveraging my experience gained over the years, I began developing innovative training programs designed to empower individuals with the skills and mindset necessary for success in leadership roles.
Recognizing the importance of accessibility in education and leadership development, I made the strategic decision to create micro-on-demand training programs for entry-level associates. Through these programs, workshops, seminars, and personalized coaching sessions, I shared insights from my journey, inspiring others to unlock their full potential as leaders.
Central to my approach to successfully making the transition was the belief in adaptability, perseverance, and the willingness to embrace change—principles deeply ingrained in my sales background and my experiences in higher education.
